CAR PARK SAFETY INFORMATION

The St Helens School car park can become quite busy during drop off and pick up times.

To ensure the safety of our students and families, we ask all members of our school community to help and support us by adhering to these guidelines.

We also ask that you adhere to the car park speed limit of 10kph, and that you exercise patience and courtesy towards other drivers and pedestrians.

DROP & GO LANE

The drop and go lane is a safe space to quickly drop off or pick up your children. The lane is a drop off zone with a limit of 2 minutes. This means you have a maximum of 2 minutes to drop off or pick up your children.

To ensure effective use of the lane and to minimise traffic congestion, the following guidelines apply:

DROP OFF

  • Children must exit to the curb side only.
  • Do not leave your vehicle. Children must be able to exit independently.
  • Limit of 2 minutes applies.
  • Check it is safe to exit the lane before leaving.
PICK UP
  • No stopping or parking in the lane until 2:45pm.
  • Do not queue beyond the lane, and do not stop or park on a continuous yellow line.
  • Children and parents/carers must follow any instructions or directions given by school staff.
  • As vehicles ahead leave the lane, carefully move forward to fill empty spaces.
  • Children must enter from the curb side only.
  • Do not leave your vehicle. Children must be able to enter independently.
  • Limit of 2 minutes applies – if your child is not ready within this time, you must leave the lane and join the end of the queue or find a park.
  • Check passengers have secured seat belts and that it is safe to exit the lane before leaving.

PARKING

Short stay parking is provided in the bays of the main section of the school car park, and on a regular school day, is sufficient to cater to all of our families.

Parking allows you to leave your vehicle to enter the school with your children, or gives you more time to drop them off or pick them up.

The following guidelines for parking promote safest practice within the car park:

  • No parking or stopping in the bus zone.
  • No parking or stopping in disability spaces without a permit (must adhere to permit conditions).
  • No parking or stopping on a continuous yellow line.
  • No stopping on pedestrian crossings.
  • No stopping, parking or driving through pedestrian refuges.
  • All angle parks must be nose in.
PEDESTRIAN SAFETY

The school car park is designed to keep pedestrians safe. When used correctly the risk of harm is significantly reduced.

The students are educated on car park safety, and we ask that all members of our community become familiar with these guidelines and lead by example to further enforce car park safety for pedestrians:

  • Walk between the designated paths painted in yellow.
  • Only cross at the marked pedestrian crossings.
  • Do not walk behind another vehicle – walk directly to the front of your vehicle to access the paths.
  • No pedestrians are to enter the drop and go lane.
  • Do not call out to children to cross the drop and go lane from the bottom gate.
